From the Parish Bulletin---
Event: St. Paul Parish Mission, Racine WI
Catholic Association of Racine Catechist In-service
Archdiocese of Milwaukee DRE Day
Dates: September 19-24, 2009
Contact person: David and Lety Kenny (St. Paul);
Theme/main message: Reality Living
Highlights/neat stuff:
+ At the end of the mission I was given a cheese head hat and made an (unofficial) honorary Wisconsinite. I got kringles and 3 pounds of cheese and a summer sausage!
+ Feeling the Holy Spirit in the course of presenting. I found myself leaving my “script” more and letting loose.
+ Having someone ask me (after my speaking at the weekend masses) “Were you ever in a Baptist seminary?”
+ Wonderful hospitality. Many thanks to Dave and Lety, Barb and Dale and Barb and Dave for wonderful conversation and relaxing times while in your parish.
+Being with marvelous educators and ministers who are beginning another year of sharing the gospel amid challenging times.
+ Visiting with my friend Lisa Marie Calderone Stewart, whose buoyant spirit and caring nature touch me greatly.
+ Having someone “sign” the mission for the hearing impaired. I think I tired these poor ladies out.
+ Meeting Leona Steibeck, a very holy woman whose spirit was very uplifting to me.
+Having 2-3 people write or e-mail my family to thank them for sharing me with their parish. Thoughtfulness extraordinaire.
+ Seeing some very life-giving signs at the parish...I especially enjoyed a morning with the parish staff. I loved hearing these ministers discuss their love for the people of the parish.
+ Spending time with Dave and Lety---very devoted people who work very hard to empower the faith community in their area.
+Spending a fun morning with the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at St. Rita and St. Sebastian Schools. One young man asked after I was done, “Are you a comedian?” I wanted to say “No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.” I figured honesty was more important.
Summary: I always have special graces that are stirred within me when I serve in Wisconsin. This trip was no exception. I was welcomed very warmly and the people were so open to what was offered. And God showed himself present to ME very deeply.
