Kelly KS Youth Rally
August 15, 2009

Okay, I have spoken on some different topics and in some interesting places but this event was a first.  I spoke on a 60-foot flatbed trailer overlooking a field with 100+ haybales with 400+ teens sitting on them. How did they get out to the field?  19 flatbed trailers.

No I am not making it up.  And yes, Toto, I WAS in Kansas.  And playing the role of Dorothy was the funny, spirited Judy McDonald.  She makes me laugh and think...and she did the same for the group gathered.

For close to 10 years, parents and church leaders have worked with local businesses and churches to arrange this rally in a small town.  (How small you ask?  One church, one rectory and one parish hall and that is all you see for miles!)  But it is well organized with people pitching in to cook and serve food in record time (35 minutes!)...the teens were so open to my presentation and participated. They were really appreciative.

Mass was held under the stars at the end of the rally but Judy and I were in the middle of a thunderstorm driving back (25 mph) to Kansas City...while Judy has her little video camera out asking God to make the sky light up even more.   Only Judy!
